They’re playing some of the most exciting football the Premier League has seen in years, and Liverpool currently rule the roost at the top. And according to the latest odds, Jurgen Klopp’s free-flowing may well still be there come Christmas.
Manchester City are the bookies choice to win the league next May, but Liverpool are the side deemed most likely to be top of the tree when Santa comes calling.
There are six more matches to be played between now and December 25, and the fixture list reads rather nicely for the Reds.
Of their opponents between now and Joyeux Noel , they face five sides in the bottom half of the table, plus 10th-placed Southampton.
Meanwhile, City must still face Chelsea and Arsenal before unwrapping any presents, plus potentially tricky trips to Burnley and Leicester.
For Chelsea, currently enjoying a five-game winning streak, will play what should be a heated contest with Tottenham, in addition to that clash with the Citizens.
And Arsenal – 17/2 to be top on Christmas – still have to go to Old Trafford and Goodison Park.
It’s good news for Liverpool then, with six of the last seven sides top at Christmas going on to win the league.
But the Anfield faithful would have reason to be skeptical, having previously topped the table at Christmas 20 years ago, before eventually falling to fourth.
The way Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are playing however, this is increasingly looking like Liverpool’s best shot at the title in a generation.
Sit top at Christmas, and the Reds may well be on course to finally land the Premier League crown.
