Damien Comolli has been tasked with the role of finding Liverpool a manager that will lead them out of their current rut, and the Director of Football at Anfield is casting his eye over current caretaker boss Kenny Dalglish.
Dalglish is 6/4 to become the next permanent Liverpool manager and after comments that arose from the board room this morning, it seems Comolli has Dalglish pencilled in for the role when his caretaking contract expires at the end of the season.
On what he’s searching for, Comolli said: “Competence, someone who will fit into the club and playing philosophy and huge on man-management – the three things most important to the club.”
“It is open to people that we think fit into what I have described and Kenny obviously fits into that category.”
According to the next permanent Liverpool manager betting market, other potential candidates that fulfil the arduous criteria are Martin O’Neill (5/1), Frank Rijkaard (6/1) and Owen Coyle (8/1).
The popular choice amongst Reds fans would be either Didier Deschamps or Andre Villa-Boas, but Deschamps has ruled himself out of the job and consequently his odds have drifted to 10/1 despite opening in the betting market as the favourite.
Despite being relatively unknown until taking charge of Porto six months ago, Villa-Boas has been touted as a potential great and his appointment would surely excite Liverpool fans as they look to regain their top four status.
Villa-Boas joins Deschamps and a host of many other names at 10/1 to become Liverpool’s next permanent manager but Dalglish is the man at the helm currently and anyone who has ambitions of leading Liverpool will find it tough to oust the Anfield legend.
