With the end of the season just over a month away, Manchester United are already preparing for who they are going to bring in over the summer.
According to The Daily Express, the 13-time Premier League champions want to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus, but it would takee £40m to pry him away from the Serie A outfit.
United have been hurt by big transfers in recent seasons, with the likes of Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria not producing, and need to be wary before making another big investment.
The signing of Sandro would be particularly needless, given the amount of young talent the Red Devils already have in that position.
Before his lengthy lay off with a broken leg, Luke Shaw looked to have cemented his place as United’s first choice left-back.
The 20-year-old played nine games for club and country before he was crocked in a Champions League game with PSV Eindhoven.
In those matches, Shaw was only on the losing side on one occasion, while he was on the winning team seven times.
Similarly, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has looked good when given a chance in the senior side.
The 19-year-old has made 12 United appearances across all competitions and in those outings he had looked like one of the most promising of Louis’ lads.
Borthwick-Jackson particularly shone in the game against Stoke City where he provided an assist as his side romped to a 3-0 win.
Man Utd have been hurt before by bringing in new recruits instead of putting faith in their academy graduates.
Paul Pogba famously turned down a new contract at Old Trafford due to his lack of first-team football and the Red Devils need to learn from this lesson.
