Juventus could test Southampton with January move for Osvaldo

It’s not been an easy start to life in the Premier League for Southampton’s record signing Dani Osvaldo, who cost £15m from Roma this summer, and Juventus will apparently attempt to lure him back to Serie A on loan in January.

It seems that players arriving in the Premier League from Roma have not fared particularly well in recent times.

Fabio Borini finds himself on-loan at rock-bottom Sunderland after his Liverpool nightmare, Tottenham’s own record signing Erik Lamela is being kept out of the side by a player Spurs had previously loaned out nine times, not forgetting Alberto Aquilani and now Osvaldo looks like he may not be in English football for long.

Argentine-born Italian international Osvaldo was brought to St Mary’s by Mauricio Pochettino after the Roma striker enjoyed a pretty prolific campaign in Serie A, notching 16 goals in 29 appearances.

However, a solitary Premier League goal and some fairly abject displays for his new side Southampton have led to concerns that he is unsettled on the south coast and this alerted Juventus to the possibilities of a January loan swoop.

Despite Saints’ terrific start, which has seen them positioned in sixth-place after a draw at Old Trafford and looking a shoo-in for the top-10 at 4/11, Osvaldo has only hit the target once, against struggling Crystal Palace.

Ironically, back in Italy his old side’s emphatic start to their own league campaign – where Roma have opened a five-point gap at the top with eight successive wins – has ensured Juve are busy
looking for ways to strengthen.

And knowing Osvaldo is a successful goal-getter in Italy, the Old Lady believe his signing could be just the boost they need to keep pace with Roma and Napoli.
