Everton remain favourites to sign Joe Hart this summer, but we can’t see that happening.
Especially as the Toffees have agreed a £30m fee with Sunderland for Jordan Pickford.
Simply put, why would Ronald Koeman spend so much money on a goalkeeper, only to then bring in Hart and bench Pickford?
Plus, the Toffees would then also need to come up with something near Hart’s £175,000-per-week wages.
All told, we can’t work out why the Goodison Park outfit remain 7/4 favourites.
So let’s look at the alternatives.
Only yesterday we pointed out West Ham’s odds cut to sign the England international, and a move to East London looks even more plausible now.
Our traders have again trimmed the odds on the Hammers, into 9/2 from 5/1 yesterday.
But it’s believed West Ham would prefer a loan deal first, and even then they are unlikely to stump up all of Hart’s wages. Nevertheless, a deal makes sense for both player and club.
Moving on, and next in the betting we find Chelsea.
They’re another big mover in the odds following the Pickford news, and have been cut from 10/1 into 5s.
The Blues could match Hart’s wages, and know he has plenty of Champions League experience.
But it seems unlikely that Thibaut Courtois will be leaving anytime soon, so Hart could find himself reduced to the rule of second-choice or cup keeper.
But in a similar situation to Chelsea, the Red Devils will not require Hart’s services while David de Gea is at Old Trafford.
Should Real Madrid come in with an improved offer on their initial £60m bid however, then Hart to Man United really could be on the cards.
