It’s spend, spend, spend for Tony Pulis and West Brom

It’s not often you see West Bromwich Albion so active in a transfer market – especially during the winter window. But much of this month’s focus looks set to be on the Baggies, as they enter talks with Odion Ighalo following the signing of Jake Livermore.

The two combined would cost the Black Country outfit around £27m. Add that to the £22m they parted with back in the summer and it looks as though times are changing at the Hawthorns.

While a move for Livermore has this morning been confirmed, there’s still some way to go before Watford’s Ighalo is announced as an Albion player.

However, it’s something our traders can see happening, with 8/11 on offer for the Nigeria international to join up with former Hornets teammate Allan Nyom once again by the end of this month.

Tony Pulis’ side were actually linked with the 27-year-old in the summer, although back then the forward came with a hefty £32m price tag.

That’s because Ighalo enjoyed an incredible debut campaign in the Premier League, scoring 16 goals and assisting five.

But there’s a new man in charge at Vicarage Road now, with Italian boss Walter Mazzarri taking over from Quique Sanchez Flores at the end of last season.

As a result of Mazzarri’s appointment, Ighalo has been left out of a third of Watford’s 21 starting line-ups in the league – a huge contrast to last season, where he started 36 of their 38 games.

Though he’s far from being surplus to requirements, it’s clear he’s not as important as he perhaps was last campaign under Flores – and the latest odds are suggesting the Baggies will step in and offer Ighalo a fresh start.

And the good news doesn’t end there for West Brom fans, with Pulis admitting earlier on in the transfer window that he’d be looking to bring in ‘three or four new players’ this month.

So who else could be about to join Livermore and Ighalo in the West Midlands? Time will tell…
