Sunday’s first televised Premier League clash sees Hull entertain Stoke and there’s plenty of evidence to suggest it’s likely to be a goal-shy contest.
Hull are the slender 7/5 favourites to pick up the win, while Stoke or the draw are priced at 11/5, so this really is a hard one to call.
We’ve studied the stats that count to try and point Ladbrokes customers the way of three profitable bets for this clash.
As the nature of the match odds suggests this is a tough result to call, which immediately points us towards the draw.
Neither side were particularly convincing in their opening fixtures, with Hull scraping past QPR 1-0 thanks largely to a missed Charlie Austin penalty and Stoke coming up short at home to Aston Villa 1-0.
These sides played out a 0-0 draw at the KC Stadium last time around and were only separated by a single goal in the reverse fixture also.
Including Europa League qualifiers Hull have been drawing at half-time in all four of their opening matches.
No one could break the deadlock at Loftus Road before half-time in Hull’s first league game either, while neither the Tigers nor the Potters could find the net before the interval in the two top-flight tussles last season.
As mentioned above, neither side managed to score before the midway stage last season and only one goal was scored over 180 minutes.
Stoke’s blank against Villa also points to a tight opening period. Meanwhile, Hull conceded just 21 goals at home last season, which was only bettered by Norwich (18) in the bottom half.
Stoke scored the least amount of away goals in the top-half also.
