What a difference a few months can make. In May, Newcastle United won the Championship while Huddersfield Town scraped into the Premier League via the play-offs.
But ahead of the second weekend of the new season, the Yorkshire outfit sit second and the Toon Army are in the bottom three.
It’s early days, but David Wagner’s Terriers have impressed.
And that’s why we make them 7/5 favourites to win their first Premier League home game.
Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle are the 21/10 outsiders, with a draw available at the same price.
The fixture list has been kind to Huddersfield, who won’t face a traditional top-six side until Gameweek seven when they host Tottenham Hotspur.
And given that they’re still favourites to be relegated, it means they’ve got a fantastic opportunity to grab early points and build momentum.
It’s a similar story for the Magpies. Having got Spurs out of the way, they’re now top-six free until Liverpool in October.
Put it all together and our pick here is Huddersfield to win and both teams to score at 17/4.
Both of those bets came good when the sides met last term, 2-1 and 3-1 the respective scores.
Steve Mounie enjoyed a dream debut for the Terriers last weekend, netting twice in the fine 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
The 22-year-old already looks at home in the Premier League, and Huddersfield’s £11.7m summer signing from Montpellier is 5/1 favourite to open the scoring.
Newcastle will be hoping Dwight Gayle can get up and running for the season, having hit 23 goals in just 34 league games last term. The former Crystal Palace man is 6/1 to score first and 23/10 anytime.
