The January transfer window is almost upon us.
Some clubs will only make minor changes to keep things on track. Others will be looking for drastic changes to turn their season around.
We’re taking a look at what all 20 Premier League sides could be after in the January sales.
And Liverpool are next up…
What they need
Defensive reinforcements. Whatever combination Jurgen Klopp selects in central defence from Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan doesn’t convince.
Nathaniel Clyne’s injury problems could see them move for a right-back too.
Of course, their activity could be dictated by Philippe Coutinho’s future.
Who they’re targeting
The Reds could go back in for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk. The centre-back was dropped by the Saints recently.
Stefan De Vrij is an alternative in the heart of defence. But the Lazio man is understood to prefer staying in Italy.
They may also pounce for Atletico Madrid right-back Sime Vrsaljko. Diego Simeone admitted he could leave for the right price.
Who they might lose
Will Barcelona come in with another huge offer for Coutinho? The playmaker wanted to leave in the summer. How would he respond if the chance to join the La Liga giants came along again?
Emre Can is out of contract at the end of the season. The club haven’t convinced him to sign an extension yet. If an agreement can’t be reached soon, they may decide to cash in.
And Daniel Sturridge may want to move on in search of regular football. He’ll need to play more to get into England’s World Cup squad. If he stays fit, he’d be a quality signing for anyone in need of goals.
Liverpool can blow sides away with their attacking play. But they’re equally capable of disastrous defending.
They’re in top-four contention and could boost their chances with additions at the back.
