There’s no doubt that Southampton have been the season’s surprise package in the Premier League, but improved performances bring the best players to the attention of envious rivals ready poach them away.
Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez are likely to be three names among the Southampton ranks that are constantly linked to moves away from St Mary’s this summer, following impressive seasons.
But it’s Morgan Schneiderlin that is the somewhat surprise subject of this transfer rumour, as Manchester United supposedly circle the south coast club ready to take the midfield man up north.
It’s well known that the Red Devils midfield will get an overhaul when the summer transfer extravaganza begins and the French Saint is being lined up as one of the first to come through the Old Trafford door.
Should Champions League football escape David Moyes’ side – and unless they win this year’s competition at 33/1 that will be the case – then the Scot will find it difficult to bring in the elite names from around the continent that the club has been perhaps more accustomed to in the past.
That makes picking up burgeoning talent from Premier League all the more important and at 24-years-old, Schneiderlin definitely fits that bill.
The Obernai native has been the heartbeat of Mauricio Pochettino’s side this term, leading his teammates for tackles per game (3.7) and average passes per game (56.5) and pass completion (89 percent) according to WhoScored.com.
With Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher all far from spring chickens and Marouane Fellaini taking time to settle since arriving in January, United are in definite need of a player like Schneiderlin to revitalise their middle band.
Naturally, Southampton aren’t going to be too keen on letting their influential midfielder go and it’s thought a bid of £15m will be needed to enter into any discussions.
