Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has added to the speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future after stating the club now looks more capable of luring him back to the Premier League.
The Sky Sports pundit claims that United’s unprecedented spending since the arrival of Louis van Gaal can be seen as a signal of intent and makes attracting CR7 back to the north-west a more feasible plan.
United spent big this summer to bring in the likes of Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo and Neville believes the presence of such talent in the squad makes Old Trafford a hugely tempting option for any player.
“You’d have to say that with what they’ve done with Di Maria and Falcao it’s more possible, it has to be, because they’ve shown the real intent to go and sign world-class players.”
Speculation of a Ronaldo return has been present since the Portugal star left for Spain in 2008 but the rumours have been ramped up of late with the player himself and former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon revealing that his heart remains in Manchester.
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, claims that the sales of Mesut Ozil, Xabi Alonso and Di Maria have left Ronaldo disillusioned with life at the Bernabeu.
Of course there is the chance that all the noise is just posturing for Ronaldo to ensure the £500,000 per week wages he desires while staying put.
Madrid have of course recruited Toni Kroos, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez recently so the argument that they are losing talent doesn’t hold too much water.
Whatever the truth though, most United fans would welcome Ronaldo back with open arms – even with his gigantic wage demands.
The Red Devils take on Leicester this weekend and after their 4-0 demolition of QPR are priced as the 13/20 favourites for three points at the King Power Stadium.
