Injury-prone during the latter stages of his time at Tottenham, Sandro could be in the midst of another spell on the sidelines in news that should have Southampton licking their lips ahead of Saturday’s Premier League encounter at St Mary’s.
The Saints head into the game as the 1/2 favourites for victory with Ladbrokes and look a tempting prospect to win by at least two clear goals with the -1 handicap on offer at 5/4 with the bookmaker.
This assessment follows the news that Sandro missed QPR’s last Premier League game after hurting his knee during training with his new Loftus Road employers.
Signed to add some defensive steel to the Rs midfield, the Brazilian has so far been restricted to just one first-team appearance – a 4-0 whitewash at the hands of Manchester United.
His absence comes after the new £10m arrival hurt his knee after deciding to celebrate a goal in training by sliding on what proved to be dry ground.
Manager Harry Redknapp revealed the nature of the problem during an interview with Talksport that no doubt had many listeners chuckling.
“Sandro injured his knee after scoring a goal in training and sliding on the dry ground celebrating,” he said.
But QPR fans may not be seeing the funny side right now, with the Brazilian already absent from the 2-2 draw with Stoke and now likely to miss their trip to Southampton.
Rangers are currently third from bottom in the Premier League and fast facing up to another campaign in the top-flight spent battling against the drop.
The London club can currently be backed at evens to be relegated with Ladbrokes, while Harry Redknapp is the 10/1 third favourite to be the next top-flight boss out of a job.
He may see the funny side of Sandro’s injury now, but if the Brazilian fails to recover quickly and the results continue to be poor, the only thing Redknapp will be seeing in his future is a P45 from Tony Fernandes.
