The new Premier League season is less than two months away, so time is dwindling for sides to make any transfers.

But there are a number of clubs reportedly tracking former Lyon playmaker Clement Grenier.

The Frenchman is in demand after a sterling half-season for Guingamp, having joined the club in January.

Grenier only signed an 18-month deal, which means he is available this summer for just £2.5m. In today’s football economy, that’s as good a bargain as you can get.

The 27-year-old scored five goals and produced four assists in 16 league games last term.

A set-piece specialist, Grenier has been linked in the past to Arsenal, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

The injuries which hindered his nine-year spell at Lyon also mean that the top-line calibre of clubs are unlikely to come calling today.

But Grenier’s talents remain an appeal for any Premier League side outside of the top six.

A talented midfielder, it’s Grenier’s set-piece talents which make him such an appealing prospect.

His right-foot can hit a dead-ball in a fashion few can match. Lyon fans will tell you he’s no stranger to walloping them in from outside of the box with his left boot too.

And in the uber-competitive world of mid-table Premier League football, that ability could be vital.

Everton already have Gylfi Sigurdsson on the books, but Grenier would make plenty of sense for both Fulham and Newcastle United.

The former will need pieces of magic on their return to the Premier League, while Rafa Benitez’s Magpies lacked a spark going forward last term.

And that £2.5m price tag only makes a move even more likely.

Premier League clubs aren’t the only ones taking interest, however. Reports claim Serie A heavyweights AC Milan are on the prowl, plus Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.
