The transfer window may be closed for a few months, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility of a club making a signing.

Free agents are still able to join a new team and some top-flight sides have been looking at players without a club during the recent international break.

West Brom, for example, fielded both Marouane Chamakh and Momo Sissoko as trialists in a recent friendly so they could run the rule over the pair.

However, the Baggies could set their sights a little higher if they want fresh additions to their squad, with these three players the pick of the current free-agent bunch:

Martin Caceres

A defender that can play across the entire back-line, Caceres made 110 appearances for Juventus before being released this summer.

He’s being pursued by his former manager Antonio Conte at Chelsea and would bring a heavy bag of accolades to West London should he sign on the dotted line with the Blues.

A career spent with Barcelona and Juve has earned the 29-year-old seven league winners’ medals (six with the Italian giants) and a Champions League crown, while with Uruguay he won the Copa America in 2011.

Mathieu Flamini

After missing out the high-profile loan of Jack Wilshere on Deadline Day, Crystal Palace are could keep an Arsenal connection in midfield by landing Flamini.

The Frenchman played in 168 top-flight games for the Gunners across two spells and was used 16 times by Arsene Wenger last season.

His experience is reportedly tempting Alan Pardew into pursuing the 32-year-old, having sold Mile Jedinak to Aston Villa earlier in the summer.

Junior Hoilett

Scoring six goals and laying on two assists in 29 Championship games last season wasn’t enough to secure Hoilett a future with QPR, and the Canadian remained unattached throughout the transfer window.

A gig at a Premier League team looks unlikely for the 26-year-old, with Wolves the latest club rumoured to be taking a look at him.
