Fantasy Football: Late Wildcards thrown down in battle for top spot

The Premier League title race may have already been sewn up but in fantasy land it’s still all to play for as we head into the home stretch.

And with just two gameweeks to go the Ladbrokes Life gang are throwing caution to the wind in the hope of achieving greatness.

Mr Brightside still leads the way with Generous John in hot pursuit. Neither will want to give an inch heading into the final day while for the rest of our characters, well, they only have pride to play for.

Here’s how this week is shaping up…

#GenerousJohn

It’s the penultimate gameweek and I trail Brightside by 41 points. With that in mind I’ve activated my wildcard and made a number of changes!

It’s a double gameweek for a number of teams and for that reason I’ve decided to bring in players that will feature twice this week in the hope of gaining a larger value of points. Easier said than done.

Players out: Hart, Alderweireld, Dann, Daniels, Sanchez, Stanislas, Lanzini, Aguero

Players in: De Gea, Moreno, Cresswell, Van Aanholt, Willian, Eriksen, Firmino, Sturridge

Sturridge looked lively against Villarreal and got on the scoresheet. I’m hoping he can carry that form into the two games and earn some serious points wearing the captain’s armband.

It’s all about winning at this stage so the wildcard has been activated! A huge double gameweek for some means wholesale changes in order to pick up the most points possible!

Into the defense comes Smalling who replaces the injured Alderweireld the bedrock for this team all season and it’s a real shame he misses the final two games.

Assist king Milner joins teammate Firmino in midfield, while West Ham skipper and penalty taker Noble also gets the call as I expect him to produce in the final game at the Boleyn. Willian and Barkley also come into the midfield.

Martial comes in for Welbeck and will get the armband. He partners Kane and Aguero drops to the bench.

It’s all or nothing this week so the wildcard is active!

Trying to make the most of the double fixtures, I’ve replaced the core of my team with who I think can do a job in both their fixtures.*

Holebas and Morgan come in at the back in place of Huth and Alderweireld, while Coutinho comes in to the midfield in place of Ozil whose form has dropped of late.

Up top Deeney retains his spot in a three-pronged attack alongside Aguero and Martial. The captain’s armband goes to the latter who I hope will have shooting boots on.

Despite a respectable points haul last weekend, Statletico seem destined for the fourth spot.

Anthony Martial has been in fine form of late, scoring in the FA Cup and then again against Leicester.

I missed out on some extra points by not making him captain last week so he gets the armband this time around.

Nine straight league games without an assist for Mesut Ozil and a difficult fixture against Man City means he gets dropped from midfield in exchange for James Milner.

The front three of Martial, Daniel Sturridge and Harry Kane all remain.

I’ve got five players with double gameweeks and my calculations suggest they’ll deliver some an impressive tally.

Gameweek 36 (1)

Suspensions and injuries have forced me to change it up a bit for the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season.

Milner and Firmino are both drafted into the team and with a double-header against Watford and Chelsea in the coming week they could help deliver a bumper points haul to help avoid any further embarrassment.

Everton have been shocking since Christmas and with Martinez set for the sack, can he really get his men up to beat title winners Leicester and relegation fighters Sunderland?

This is why I’ve dropped Lukaku to the bench and instead gone with a front two of Aguero and Deeney.
