It’s been quite a summer for Everton, one like never before. The Toffees have spent a whopping £93m in the off-season – and they might not be done yet.

According to the latest reports, the Goodison Park outfit are considering a move for Benfica striker Raul Jimenez.

The Sun claim Everton have offered £27.5m for the 26-year-old, though the Portuguese giants are holding out for nearer £40m.

And even though the two sides appear some way off in terms of agreeing a fee, our traders make it odds-on at 4/5 that Jimenez signs in the coming days.

Despite their summer splurge, Everton have actually made a net profit so far, after the sales of Romelu Lukaku, Tom Cleverley and Gerard Deulofeu.

So they can still make a signing or two yet before the window shuts.

And though they’ve brought in Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez up front, Ronald Koeman’s side still lacks a little physicality and skill up front.

And that’s why Jimenez could be the ideal signing.

Blessed with great trickery and movement, Jimenez is a constant threat in the final third, and at a smidge over 6ft1in, would bring a further presence to the Toffees strikeforce.

Both Rooney and Sandro come in at under 5ft 8in.

Mexico international Jimenez came through the ranks with his native Club America, hitting 39 goals in 102 for the side in a little over three seasons.

That prompted Atletico Madrid to fork out £11m in the summer of 2014, but after one goal in 27 appearances, he quickly moved on to Benfica.

And since moving to Portugal Jimenez has re-discovered his touch, hitting 24 goals in 80 games for the Eagles.

Ignoring his stats in Madrid, Jimenez averages a goal every 3.3 games. That equates to 11.5 goals acorss a 38-game Premier League campaign.

Record-breaking he isn’t, but Everton don’t want Jimenez for that. That’s what Rooney and Sandro are for.

Having signed Gylfi Sigurdsson for £45m from Swansea City last week, the Toffees now boast arguably the best set-piece taker in the entire division.

Now all they need is a target man…
