Everton haven’t been slow in spending the £76m windfall from the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United. But the Toffees’ transfer business could be set to ramp up another gear with the signings of Danny Welbeck and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Arsenal striker Welbeck has had a so-so 2017 thus far, netting four times in 20 games following his return from injury – chalking up the same number of assists.
However, with Alexandre Lacazette heading to the Emirates this summer, ‘Welbz’ could find game-time hard to come by, and he’s now just 2/1 to swap North London for his native North-West, with a move to Goodison Park.
Meanwhile, our trading team think the Merseyside club are still right on track to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer, despite the will-they, won’t-they saga having rumbled on throughout the window.
We make it 1/8 the Swansea City hitman joins Ronald Koeman’s side this summer. And having hit double figures in each of the last two seasons, he’d definitely take some of the strain as far as filling Lukaku’s goal void goes.
However, they’re not the only club in the frame, with Leicester City 4/1 shots to add the Icelandic ace to their ranks before the window shuts.
Callum Bunce of Ladbrokes said: “A player of Welbeck’s pedigree would be a real coup for Everton and bets are pouring in on him heading to the blue half of Merseyside this summer.”
However, if Koeman can add Sigurdsson and Welbeck to his ranks, the real value could lie in the 2/1 for a top-six finish.
