Landon Donovan’s second stint at Everton begins against bottom of the table Bolton Wanderers this evening and the American could not ask for an easier start to life back in the Premier League.
Owen Coyle’s men have the worst defence in the league and Donovan looks set to get some game time following his two-month loan deal from MLS side LA Galaxy.
Speaking to the Everton website, Donovan said: “It’s nice to be here and start training, and my hope is that I’ll feet fit enough and ready and the manager wants to use me against Bolton.
“It would be nice to start back at Goodison and get going.”
While a start looks a little beyond the midfielder, he looks certain to be involved at some point – if only to give the Goodison faithful something to shout about.
Donovan was a firm fan favourite with the blue half of Merseyside during his spell with the club two seasons ago and hit two goals in eight league appearances for David Moyes’ men.
He continues to find the net regularly for the Galaxy and last season was the Los Angeles club’s top scorer with 12 goals in 21 starts.
Donovan is currently 6/1 to open the scoring against Bolton but a better bet may be to back him to score the last goal in the game – especially as he looks unlikely to start for a team that has not lost in four league games.
Goals have been hard to come by for the Toffees though and they have hit just nine in ten home games this season, making an appearance from the bench look likely for Donovan.
Backing Donovan – who scored four winning goals in the MLS last season – to find the net last at 6/1 looks well worth consideration.
