If Sunday’s tie between Brazil and Scotland is anything to go by, Neymar is the next Brazilian superstar and it’s understandable why the Premier League’s top clubs are chasing him.
Both Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Mancini took their place among the stands to watch Neymar on Sunday and Brazilian coach Mano Menezes believes Chelsea would be the ideal fit for the 19-year-old prodigy.
With three goals in three starts for Brazil and 46 goals in 70 appearances for Santos, Neymar’s attacking threat would be an asset to any team and with Didier Drogba seemingly on his way out of Stamford Bridge, Neymar could prove the ideal partner for Fernando Torres.
Chelsea have already had a bid in the region of £20-£25m rejected last August but it is believed Neymar has a buy-out clause of around £30m in his contract.
However the striker has admitted a desire to play in Italy and potential suitors include Inter Milan and Juventus who have both declared their interest in the 19-year-old, although both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are keeping tabs on the Brazilian.
“Like everyone, I would like to play in Serie A, even though I am happy at Santos,” said Neymar.
It is highly likely that we will see Neymar in the Champions League next season and with Chelsea still searching for their maiden Champions League title, Neymar would certainly enhance their Champions League prospects.
Chelsea are 11/2 to win the Champions League this season and face a mouth-watering quarter-final first leg with Manchester United next week at Stamford Bridge in a game they are 11/10 to win.
With Real Madrid and Barcelona in the other half of the draw, should Chelsea defeat Manchester United then Inter Milan or Schalke would stand in their way of a final appearance.
A Barcelona vs Chelsea final is available at 7/2 while a Real Madrid vs Chelsea final is 7/1.
