Wesley Sneijder’s long-touted move to Manchester United could be one stage closer to being completed with Samuel Eto’o expected to leave Inter Milan in the coming days.

Eto’s is on the brink of completing a slightly surprising switch to wealthy Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala, with Inter having accepted an offer of €35m.

Despite not being in the Champions League, Anzhi have set their sights high in the transfer market as they have also targeted Brazilian striker Neymar and Arsenal playmaker Andrei Arshavin, while Roberto Carlos is already in their squad.

Eto’o is predicted to net around €20m a season in wages to head to Russia and his decision to leave Inter could have a bearing on Sneijder’s future.

Although Inter are not in the best financial position, they may be reluctant to lose both of their leading assets in the same summer and the money gained from the Eto’o transfer should be enough to keep them comfortably ticking over.

However, with the sale of Eto’o likely to have a negative impact on both Inter’s Serie A and Champions League chances, Sneijder may now feel he has to move in order to boost his own chances of collecting further silverware.

Sneijder has already hinted that unofficial talks have taken place with Manchester United about a possible £35m move, but the reigning Premier League champions have been reluctant to meet this asking price, alongside the Dutchman’s wage demands.

But Sneijder may now be happy to accept a slight wage cut in order to leave Inter, especially as a move to Manchester United would allow him to play in the Premier League for the first time.

Manchester United’s odds are 13/8 to win the Premier League title for the fifth time in six seasons and 1/2 to win their opening game away at West Brom.

Although there is no chance that any Sneijder deal will be completed ahead of the West Brom fixture.
