Eddie Howe is the new favourite to succeed Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager.

The Bournemouth boss is touted as one of the brightest young managers in the game, and with Wenger in the final year of his contract in north London, the odds on Howe moving to the Emirates have tumbled into 6/1 from 12s.

That’s moved the Englishman ahead of Germany boss Joachim Low in the betting, with Roberto Mancini next up at 12/1.

Howe has already forged favourable links with the Gunners by welcoming Jack Wilshere to Dean Court on a season-long loan.

Reports in the press this week claim the club have now earmarked the Cherries manager as the man they want to succeed the long-standing Frenchman.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “It’s nearly 20 years to the day since Wenger took charge at Arsenal, and now it seems the club have lined up his replacement when the Frenchman finally steps down.”

Speculation has risen in recent years over exactly when Wenger will call time on his Arsenal reign, with fans also growing disgruntled over the relative lack of success at the club.

Elsewhere, Gooners legends Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry are 16/1 each for the job, alongside Frank de Boer.

After a lacklustre start to the new Premier League season, Arsenal can make it two wins on the spin when Southampton visit the capital this weekend.

The Gunners are 4/7 for three points, while the Saints are 19/4 to put an early dent on Wenger’s latest title aspirations.
