Arsenal head into the final part of the season knowing that even if they win all of their remaining matches, the Gunners may well be heading for a trophyless season, but Arsene Wenger seems set to make amends for that this summer.

Having been linked with a host of players in recent weeks, the north London side are reportedly in the hunt for Borussia Dortmund’s star midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian ace is believed to be deliberating over a new contract with BvB or a move to the Emirates.

Mkhitaryan has come close to joining English clubs in the past, with Liverpool and Tottenham both options during his three-year stay with Shakhtar Donetsk, before joining Borussia Dortmund under Jurgen Klopp in 2013 for £23.5m.

That could see Liverpool feature in the chase for the 27-year-old’s signature this summer, but it may be worth noting that the Armenian has arguably played his best football this season – the year after Klopp departed.

A tidy haul of 20 goals this season has really thrust Mkhitaryan back onto the radar of the Premier League’s top clubs, and with just one year left on his contract, it seems his future will be decided one way or another sooner rather than later.

Valued by transfermarkt.co.uk at £21m, Dortmund’s hands would be slightly tied by next summer’s contract expiry, but Arsenal are still going to have to fork out up to and around £30m if they want their man, with a host of Europe’s biggest names also potential suitors for the forward.

Predominantly a right winger, Mkhitaryan would slot anywhere across Wenger’s attacking midfield trio, and with a host of middle men set to leave the Emirates this summer, the Armenian could become a star name in the red half of north London.
