If you were to link a Leicester City player with a move to Liverpool this summer, Demarai Gray might not be the first name you think of. But according to the latest reports, that’s exactly what Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is planning to do.
The 20-year-old winger is set to be the target of a Liverpool bid when the season concludes, as Klopp looks to add more pace and energy to his front-line.
Seeking a return to the Champions League next season, it’s believed the German boss is after two wingers this summer.
Gray has only been with Leicester for 13 months, joining the Foxes from Birmingham City mid-way through their Premier League title campaign last year.
And though he’s struggled to help the reigning champions avoid a battle with the drop, his wonderful solo goal this week against Derby in the Emirates FA Cup was a timely reminder of his ability.
The forward came through the youth ranks at Birmingham, and made his senior debut aged just 17.
Leicester paid the Blues just over £4.3m for his services last January, but with a contract running through to 2020, Liverpool will have to fork out much more than that.
However, should the Foxes endure the ignominy of relegation this season, the Reds may be able to arrange a cut-price deal for Gray.
The Anfield side have suffered a disastrous 2017 thus far, winning just one of their 10 games since the turn of the year – and that was against League Two Plymouth.
Klopp will be hoping his side can turn their fortunes around this weekend, but it won’t be easy as Tottenham make the trip to Merseyside.
We make the Reds 6/5 to land a first league win of the calendar year.
