Neil Warnock has condemned a Crystal Palace stadium announcer after revealing that Manchester City awaited the winners of the Eagles’ Capital One Cup clash with Newcastle.
With the game locked at 2-2 and extra-time about to get underway the Palace employee revealed that the winner would face Manchester City away to a deafening round of groans.
Warnock has blasted the announcer for a lack of professionalism and the prospect of playing City at the Etihad may well have demotivated his players but behind the scenes the Palace manager will be quietly overjoyed to be out of the League Cup.
Palace have won just one match in the Premier League so far this season and with the next round of the cup coming between key fixtures against West Brom and Sunderland Warnock will be thankful not to have a midweek trip to Manchester to contend with.
Palace are 4/9 to stay up this season, having earned some credible draws and a dramatic win over Everton since their pre-season preparation was thrown out the window with the departure of manager Tony Pulis on the eve of the new campaign.
Next up for Palace is the visit of a Leicester team that has enjoyed a much better start to the season and will be flying high on confidence after a thrilling 5-3 victory over Manchester United.
A trip to Hull and the visit of table toppers Chelsea are also on the horizon and with a return of zero points from those three ties a feasible result Palace are going to need to focus all their efforts on picking up points in the league, especially against West Brom and Sunderland.
