Crystal Palace v Southampton: Festive niceties lost on Saints

The Christmas season is a time for giving and receiving but the idea of generosity is lost on Southampton as far as Crystal Palace are concerned.

Saints have won five of the last six meetings with the Eagles, not allowing the Selhurst Park outfit to score on any of those occasions.

And after ending their recent five-game losing streak with a convincing 3-0 win over Everton it is Ronald Koeman’s side that go into this Boxing Day clash as the 6/5 favourites.

Palace can be backed to take all three points at 5/2, while the draw is on at 23/10, but Ladbrokes News’ James Curtis has crunched the numbers to find three better value picks to boost those Christmas coffers.

Southampton to win to nil @ 23/10

Southampton to win is a tempting pick at odds-against but the trends in this fixture mean the longer odds on a win to nil have to be considered.

The last seven meetings between these two have been won with the victor keeping a clean sheet and with Saints taking five of those games – including the last four straight – the price is too good to ignore.

Southampton to win 2-0 @ 8/1

Given the above trend it would be remiss of us not to advise at least a little dabble on the Correct Score markets.

Four of the last five meetings have produced a 2-0 scoreline and with Southampton coming out on top in three of those clashes a repeat could well be on the cards here.

Graziano Pelle to score first @ 9/2

The Italian cemented his place as Southampton’s top scorer this season with the crucial second goal in last week’s 3-0 win over Everton and after riding out a lean spell is now back to being a serious threat.

Pelle has now netted two goals in his last three to take his totals to 12 strikes in 22 games and if anyone is likely to get the St Mary’ crowd rocking it is the slick-haired Saints forward.
