Crystal Palace aren’t backing down in their attempts to sign Charlton Athletic’s teenage superstar Ademola Lookman, launching an improved last-ditch offer.
The Eagles have already had one £4m bid rejected by the Addicks for the 18-year-old, but now they’re back with an offer believed to be around the £6m mark.
Palace’s chase for Lookman is the latest in a series of attack-mind targets from the south London side.
Alan Pardew has been busy ramping up his offensive options this summer, following numerous problems with strikers and a goal-shy squad last term.
Christian Benteke and Loic Remy have arrived from Liverpool and Chelsea respectively, while Andros Townsend has joined from Newcastle.
West Brom and Tottenham were also believed to be in the hunt for Lookman, who only made his Charlton debut last season.
But it seems the Baggies and Spurs are no longer interest, with Palace now unchallenged in the quest to break Charlton’s resolve.
Capable up front or out wide, Lookman is regarded as one of the brightest teenage talents in England, but it remains to be seen where he will be plying his trade beyond tonight.
A dodgy start to the season is an indicator of why Palace have been so busy as the deadline nears.
Pardew’s men lost their opening two games, before picking up the first point of the year last weekend with a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.
Lookman may not be the instant fix for the Eagles, but Benteke, Remy and co might just be when the Premier League returns after the international break.
The Eagles make the long trip up the M1 to newly promoted Middlesbrough, and the bookies make 13/5 Pardew’s men can return to London with a first win of the season under their belt.
