Chelsea’s number one front man boosted to bag first v Swansea

Chelsea will be looking to ensure the race for the Premier League title stays a three horse affair when they travel to south Wales to face Swansea in the division’s late kick-off, and will need their strikers to step up their efforts in order to do so.

Third-string front man, Demba Ba, was the saviour in the Blues’ dramatic turnaround tie against Paris St-Germain last time out, further dampening Fernando Torres’ spirits in being the last striker Jose Mourinho turned to for a goal.

Neither of the pair have a record this term that means they can usurp Samuel Eto’o from the starting line-up though and his reliability in front of goal this season has not only helped the west London club, but first goal scorer backers too.

Just as well then that the Cameroon international’s price to score first at the Liberty Stadium has been given a plump up, with Eto’o now a 5/1 chance to bag the game’s first goal as opposed to the 9/2 previously available on him.

Half of the former Inter Milan striker’s eight league goals this term have broken the game’s deadlock and although he’s yet to find the net in a single away game in the Premier League this season, he should have more joy against the Swans.

The Welsh side are the joint-fourth worst in the division at allowing opponents to get a head start in proceedings, shipping the opening goal of the game 19 times in their 33 outings this season.

On the other side of the coin, only two teams – Chelsea’s prolific title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City – have put the scoreboard in motion more than the Blues, who have scored the first goal of the game in 21 of their 33 Premier League games to date.
