Chelsea fans were steeling themselves for life without club legend John Terry next season, but after a sensational U-turn, the Blues captain has signed on for another year at Stamford Bridge – and the odds suggest he’ll stay there beyond next summer.

After an emotional speech following Chelsea’s final home game, it seemed the Barking-born defender was set for a move to MLS with New York City evens to snap him up, and a host of other clubs keen on his signature.

However, ‘Mr Chelsea’ has put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal with the west London club. And far from this season being a certain swansong for Terry’s Blues career, it’s 5/6 that the former England captain is still at Chelsea when the 2017-18 campaign begins.

Terry is hot-favourite to retain the Blues’ captaincy in the coming season, with 1/3 that he’s still wearing the armband under incoming boss Antonio Conte.

Meanwhile, it’s a 9/4 shot Terry wins a trophy with the club in 2016-17, which could prove a popular selection, with the centre-back having won 14 honours in the past 12 years at the Bridge.

And those who fancy the 35-year-old to continue his association with the west London club once he hangs up his boots can back Terry to become a future Chelsea manager at 5/2.

Chelsea are 9/2 to win the club’s fifth Premier League title next season, and who would bet against their inspirational captain lifting the league crown one last time?
