Manchester City look likely to replace Manuel Pellegrini with a coach boasting significant Champions League credentials.
That is according to the latest odds from Ladbrokes with Carlo Ancelotti the evens money favourite to take over at the Etihad following a turbulent season at current club Real Madrid.
Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola is next in the betting at 5/1 while Rafa Benitez’s position as third favourite at 7/1 further enhances the belief City are seeking someone with European pedigree.
It comes as the Sky Blues slumped to yet another defeat in the Premier League which left the club fourth in the table and all but out of the title race.
Despite pointing to some questionable refereeing decisions Pellegrini looks set to pay the ultimate price with the Chilean 5/2 to leave the club before the end of the season.
Even if those behind the scenes at the Etihad grant him a stay of execution it may only be temporary with Ladbrokes 2/5 on the South American not being in charge come the start of next season.
A derby defeat to bitter rivals Manchester United could yet hasten his departure with the bookmaker offering 16/1 on the Chilean leaving his post within 24 hours of a defeat to the Red Devils.
“Pellegrini has gone from a title contender to favourite for the chop and punters are backing Manchester City to wield the axe sooner or later,” a Ladbrokes spokesperson said.
