Callum Wilson returned to the Bournemouth fold last weekend and has promised to pick up where he left off before his injury lay-off.
The striker took to life in the Premier League with ease, netting five goals in the opening seven games of the Cherries’ first season in the top flight, but has missed the last six months with cruciate ligament damage.
The 24-year-old was used as a late substitute in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa and has vowed to finish the season as the club’s top scorer despite his lengthy absence.
Joshua King is currently leading the pack with six goals, while Junior Stanislas is level with Wilson on five strikes in all competitions.
However, Wilson is the player most likely to finish top of the pile, with Ladbrokes pricing him up as the 6/4 favourite to be the Cherries’ top scorer.
King and January arrival Benik Afobe are next in the betting at 11/4 while Glenn Murray can be backed at 8/1.
Stanislas appears unlikely to build on his current haul at 10/1 while Lewis Grabban’s pricing of 25/1 suggests he’s set for yet more time on the sidelines despite his big money return to Dean Court.
Commenting on his hopes for the remainder of the season, Wilson told the Daily Echo: “Competition for any striker is good because it pushes you. The manager has made some great signings and those players have helped get us to where we are now.
“Competition is healthy and, hopefully, I will be pushing them for their shirts…We have five games left and, as a striker, you want to finish top of the tree. I am still only one goal behind so hopefully I can make that up.”
Bournemouth are next in action at home to Liverpool and go into the game as 12/5 underdogs. The draw can be backed at 12/5, with a win for the Reds on at 11/10 but with Wilson back in the side and the visitors potentially feeling the effects of a Thursday night Europa League encounter there could be plenty of value in backing the hosts.
