Premier League: Burnley to stay up

Burnley are a busy lot on this Deadline Day, having already splashed out a club-record fee on Jeff Hendrick the Clarets are now readying themselves to welcome Kamil Grosicki from Rennes.

Sean Dyche has spent a reported £10m on Hendrick, and an additional £8m is about to spend today from the Polish international Grosicki.

The 28-year-old is predominantly a right winger, and produced nine goals and four assists from 33 appearances Les Rouges et Noirs last season.

Grosicki was a key figure for Rennes last term, who were flying high in third before a late season capitulation saw them drop to eighth.

But the Polish star’s contributions haven’t gone unnoticed, and Burnley are reportedly ready to launch a late Deadline Day bid in an effort to boost their offensive options.

The Lancashire outfit beat Liverpool 2-0, but have failed to score in their other two fixtures.

Having spent much of the summer doing very little in terms of transfer activity, Burnley are ramping up their actions late in the day.

Hendrick’s arrival today follows Patrick Bamford’s loan agreement from Chelsea, and the £7m spent on Anderlecht’s Steven Defour.

Traditionally Burnley haven’t been big spenders, and though these £10m sums seem small change by many clubs they are battling against at the top, they represent a major change of tact from Turf Moor.

Dyche himself has stated that Burnley can’t afford to do battle in a bidding war, so they’re having to be careful about who they target and when they do so.

Grosicki hasn’t been on many clubs’ radars this summer, but Dyche and Burnley clearly feel that they might be on to something.
