Arsenal fans called for a new striker after the 1-1 draw with Leicester and a new striker is exactly what they got with Danny Welbeck arriving in north London from Manchester United for £16m.

After the transfer deadline day move was completed Ladbrokes moved quickly to price up the latest of our Breaking Bets series and the England international is now 11/2 to finish the season as Arsenal’s top Premier League goal scorer.

And with the 23-year-old expected to slot straight into the Gunners’ starting XI in the absence of Olivier Giroud, this could a bet worth taking.

For much of Welbeck’s career at Old Trafford, and throughout time with England, the former Red Devil has been used mainly out on the flanks.

Despite not being played in his favoured position he still managed to notch 20 goals in 90 appearances  for his home-town club and also six goals in 26 appearances while on loan at Sunderland.

The England striker has also fired eight goals in 26 appearances for the Three Lions showing he has the ability to find the net on a more regular basis.

With the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere now providing ammunition for the former United star, now could be his time to shine at the top level.

Those sentiments have been echoed in recent days following his move to north London with David Beckham and former team-mate Rio Ferdinand both backing Welbeck to shine at the Emirates Stadium.

Ferdinand said: “Welbeck is a top signing for Arsenal.

“If he gets that trust to be No 1 striker at AFC he will flourish and explode.”
