Newcastle United’s brilliant start to the season is well and truly over as the Magpie’s head into the packed Christmas schedule on a dreadful run of form.
They lost their previous game 3-2 against West Brom and face a Bolton side rejuvenated following their basement battle victory over Blackburn in the week.
This has all the makings of an extremely close clash…
Bolton head into this game in the unusual position of being favourites at 5/4.
They have a very decent record against Newcastle at the Reebok, having lost just one of their previous eight games against the North East side at home.
With the Blackburn victory giving Owen Coyle’s men a much needed confidence boost, backing Bolton to record a victory looks an extremely tempting proposition.
However, with both sides finding wins hard to come by, there is a case for backing a tentative draw.
It would be Bolton’s first since a 1-1 draw back in February when their last game against Newcastle finished level.
The draw is currently 23/10, while the Magpies can be backed at 9/5 to get their first win in over a month.
Only one of the previous 13 meetings between these sides has seen a goalless draw and, with Bolton having the worst home defence in the Premier League, goals look likely.
Newcastle have scored in nine of their previous ten away games in all competitions and, with the Magpies keeping just one clean sheet in their last eight league games, back both teams to score at 4/6.
Finally, Demba Ba has hit 13 Premier League goals this season and smashed in both goals in their 3-2 defeat against West Brom in the week.
He is 6/5 to score at any time against the Trotters.
