Bolton and Stoke chasing Manchester City’s on-loan Celtic star

Having reportedly put Sporting Lisbon off with his contract demands, on-loan Celtic striker John Guidetti could be set to head back south of the border with two teams reportedly vying for his services next season.

The 23-year-old’s contract with parent club Manchester City expires at the end of the current campaign and while the Bhoys have offered the Swede a deal to remain at Parkhead, it would appear that the forward is keen on returning to England.

Stoke City are thought to be one of the two interested parties, with manager Mark Hughes keen to bolster his attacking options for next season.

The former Manchester City boss previously brought Guidetti to the Britannia as part of a loan deal last term.

However, after featuring just six times in the Premier League under the Welshman during that spell, it’s debateable as to whether the Scandinavian would be open to a return.

The alternative could see Guidetti take a step down to the Championship, with Bolton Wanderers keen on capturing the Swede on a free transfer.

Manager Neil Lennon is thought to have been impressed by the striker’s efforts for Celtic this season and will be looking to bring the forward to the Macron Stadium with a view to having him spearhead a renewed promotion push next season.

Guidetti has scored 15 goals in 35 appearances for the Hoops this season and has previously been linked with a number of English clubs.

Southampton were among those thought to be keeping tabs on the 23-year-old, with manager Ronald Koeman previously working with Guidetti during a season-long loan stay at Feyenoord.

The Sweden international netted a sensational 20 goals in 23 outings for the Rotterdam giants and could yet be tempted into a return to the Eredivisie.

Guidetti is not the only loan star set to exit Celtic Park this summer with defender Jason Denayer due to return to Manchester City, who will then look to loan the stopper out to a Championship side.
