Birmingham fans will be hoping that Cameron Jerome will repeat the magic he showed against Blackburn last season as Alex McLeish’s team prepare for their first home fixture of the current campaign.
Jerome netted either side of half-time as Birmingham sealed a 2-1 victory just before Christmas at St Andrews and he is 6/4 to find the target again within the 90 minutes.
Meanwhile, he is 5/1 to open the scoring as Birmingham look to build on the fine resolve they showed to claim a 2-2 draw at Sunderland on the opening day of the season after falling two goals down.
The scoreline of 2-1 proved familiar between the teams last season as this was also the way it finished at Ewood Park.
On that occasion it was David Dunn who was the difference with both Blackburn goals, but he is doubtful after limping off during Rovers’ 1-0 victory over Everton in their first game of the campaign.
One of the main features of the game will be the return of Matt Derbyshire to English shores from Olympiacos after Birmingham agreed a deal to take the former Blackburn striker on loan for the whole of the season.
It is likely that McLeish will start Derbyshire on the bench, but he is 7/4 to score at any time on what would be his Birmingham debut.
Birmingham also proved tough to beat at St Andrews last season as Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City all failed to leave with more than a point.
Blackburn are 23/10 to be the first side to indicate that St Andrews may not be the same fortress this season and make it six points from six, with Birmingham 6/5 to claim their first victory of the season.
Jerome is 66/1 to finish as the Premier League’s top goalscorer, with Didier Drogba the 5/2 favourite after hitting a hat-trick in Chelsea’s 6-0 win on the opening day over West Brom.
