After starring alongside Fernando Torres on his comeback against Chelsea on Sunday, Dirk Kuyt can provide Roy Hodgson with another strong result against Wigan.
The Dutch attacker has five goals in his last eight games against Wigan, and considering Liverpool’s current form, you’d be hard pushed to bet against the Reds securing the win.
But Roberto Martinez’s side are unbeaten in their last four home league games, albeit two of those ties were against Championship opposition, and Liverpool’s away form has been really poor.
In the past two Premier League seasons, Liverpool have registered just six away wins against West Ham, Everton, Aston Villa, Burnley and Bolton twice.
The performance of Roy Hodgson’s side in the Chelsea game was the best under his management, but a return to the performances that saw Liverpool scrape past Blackburn and Bolton would leave Wigan with a big chance of an upset.
Wigan are as long as 7/2 to beat Liverpool with the Merseyside club odds on at 8/11 to win away from home.
But Liverpool will have to improve their away record drastically if they are to start justifying odds on prices for away ties.
In 10 league ties between the two clubs there has never been a 0-0 scoreline, but only 24 goals have been scored and under 2.5 goals looks the value in the Wigan vs Liverpool betting market at 4/6.
Fernando Torres looked back to his best against Chelsea on Sunday and the Spanish striker is 4/5 to score any time but team-mate Kuyt is the better value at 5/2.
On a run of eight games without just the one clean sheet, it seems Wigan will concede at some point but in Hugo Rodallega and Charles N’Zogbia, they have two players who are capable of earning the side a point – the 1-1 draw is priced at 11/2.
Of the 60 Premier League goals Torres has scored, only 16 have come away from Anfield. See the full Wigan vs Liverpool betting odds market here.
