Belgian star is high up on Arsene Wenger’s January list

With Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the latest names to go on Arsene Wenger’s injury list, the Arsenal boss is rumoured to be lining up reinforcements.

And not just any reinforcements, Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi who is scoring for fun this season in Ligue 1.

The 22-year-old has eight goals from 11 games, and has chipped in with three assists to further excite the Gunners faithful.

According to reports in the newspapers, Wenger has been monitoring the Belgian since the start of last season, and Batshuayi’s form this campaign has only heightened the Arsenal boss’s desire.

Tottenham are also rumoured to be in the chase for the 6ft forward, and with the January transfer window rapidly approaching, Wenger may have to move sooner rather than later.

Michy Batshuayi already has eight league goals this season

Already a physical presence upfront, Batshuayi, signed from Standard Liege by Marseille in 2014, could quickly settle into the combative nature of the Premier League.

With Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott very differing forwards, Wenger is on the hunt for a player who provides a little bit of both players’ qualities and Batshuayi looks to tick the boxes.

The Brussels-born player was eligible to play for DR Congo through his parents, but made his Belgium international debut in March in a Euro 2016 qualifier in Cyprus, coming off the bench to score three minutes later in a 5-0 win.

Another product of Belgium’s current golden generation, Batshuayi has already made over 160 appearances in his club career, and the time looks right for a move, but will Wenger pounce before it’s too late?
