Bayern Munich’s Mandzukic keen on move to London

Chelsea and Arsenal will go head-to-head in the battle to sign unsettled Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic this summer.

That is according to recent reports claiming that the Croat’s agents recently visited London to talk about possible deals with both the Gunners and the Blues.

With Chelsea priced at 15/8 to win the Premier League and still going strong in the Champions League, it stands to reason that the Bayern star could favour a move to the west, rather than the north, of the capital.

Mandzukic has been in good form in the Bundesliga this term, hitting 17 goals in 23 appearances, but feels his place in the starting line-up will be under threat once Robert Lewandowski arrives in the summer.

Chelsea are likely to offload Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o at the end of the current campaign and Mandzukic fits the bill for a likely replacement.

However, while Chelsea are flying under Jose Mourinho, Arsenal are looking as competitive as ever under Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners could close the gap on Chelsea to a single point with a win over the Blues this weekend – a result that would surely see their 12/1 title odds tumble – and a league win could go some way to attracting players of Mandzukic’s ilk.

Wenger is keen to add firepower to his squad after seeing Lukas Podolski struggle on the field and Olivier Giroud make unwanted headlines off it.

After Bayern drew Manchester United in the Champions League, the striker could well stay put if they go on to reclaim Europe’s top prize, but should he opt to leave; London looks his most likely destination.
