Unless Manchester United can make up 10 points in as many games on Chelsea in the Premier League, they won’t be winning a trophy for the second season in a row.

Their self-inflicted defeat at the hands of Arsenal in the FA Cup sixth-round effectively narrows their campaign objectives to the sole pursuit of a top-four spot, while ensuring that yet more cash will be flashed on cavalry in the summer.

One potential new arrival could be West Brom hotshot Saido Berahino, who was spotted in the Old Trafford stands next to his representative Aidy White for the FA Cup encounter.

With the England U21 international keen on progressing to a big club and the Red Devils seemingly losing confidence in Radamel Falcao, this certainly looks like one of the more plausible rumours floating around during the closed-transfer-window-gossip lull.

According to Ladbrokes, however, Louis van Gaal’s club aren’t even the favourites to sign the Burundi-born striker when he eventually decides to up sticks from the Hawthorns.

The bookmaker’s market on Berahino’s next destination actually puts Liverpool as the 6/4 favourites to capture the 21-year-old’s signature.

United are given odds of 2/1 to make them second favourites in the race, with Tottenham next on the list as a 4/1 chance.

Beyond that trio things start to become a little far-fetched, with Southampton at 12s, Everton and Newcastle both at 16/1 and Arsenal a distant 20/1 shot.

Berahino is enjoying a flourishing reputation as a goal scorer this season having netted 18 goals in 35 appearances for the Midlands club this term.

That form has helped earn him a call-up to the England squad and follows an impressive, if stalled, nine-goal campaign last term.
