Home wins have proved particularly rare in the previous Premier League meetings between Aston Villa and Wigan, but Villa should have too much for their visitors this time around.

Only once in the 12 Premier League showdowns have the hosts claimed maximum points and Wigan have never left Villa Park point-less.

And even though Villa have won just one of their opening six games this season and have leading goal threat Darren Bent facing a race against time to be fit, 4/6 looks decent in the Premier League odds that they triumph.

Despite their good record at Villa Park, Wigan are generally poor on their travels, winning just two of their last 13 Premier League away games.

However, they have not lost four away games in succession since 2008 and this may be a reason why they can gain a result, especially against a Villa team rapidly earning the tag of draw specialists.

Wigan’s odds are 5/1 to beat Aston Villa and it is 5/2 that the points are shared, which would continue the unbeaten start to the campaign of Alex McLeish’s team.

The one player that will be looking for an especially strong performance is Charles N’Zogbia in his first appearance against the club he left in the summer.

N’Zogbia has made a slow start to life at Villa and it will not be long before the fans get on his back if performances do not improve.

He does have previous for scoring against former clubs, netting both Wigan goals in a draw with Newcastle last season and Villa will be hoping for a similar contribution, especially without Bent.

It is 8/1 that N’Zogbia opens the scoring against Wigan and 5/2 that he finds the target at any time in the 90 minutes.
