Arsenal to win the Premier League

As Jack Wilshere heads towards a temporary exit from the Emirates, Lanus’ Miguel Almiron is the latest man touted to make an entrance in the red half of north London.

It’s believed Arsene Wenger is keen on signing the 22-year-old, who can play in either a central midfield role or a more attacking position on the flanks.

With competition for midfield spots already mightily competitive, Parguayan international Almiron is deemed to be a signing for the future rather than becoming an immediate Arsenal hero.

The Ascuncion native joined Lanus 12 months ago, after impressing at his local side Cerro Porteno.

Stepping up to one of Argentina’s biggest sides has proved no obstacle, and Almiron’s performances over the past year have attracted national and international attention.

Rewarded with a first cap for his country last May, Almiron played twice for Paraguay in this summer’s Copa America Centenario after a sterling year at club level.

A particularly stunning chip versus Banfield was just one of many stand-out moments, as the midfielder helped Lanus claim only their second Argentine championship, scoring in the 4-0 final win over San Lorenzo.

With Joel Campbell again sent on loan for the season, and Serge Gnabry also believed to be on his way out, Gooners will be hoping Wenger has more faith in Almiron, who possesses rapid pace and a deft touch.

Arsenal are looking to get a deal done before the deadline on Wednesday night, with transfermarkt.co.uk valuing Almiron at just under £4.7m.

With Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi joining this week too, Almiron looks like becoming Wenger’s third signing of the week.
