First it was Cesc Fabregas, then Jack Wilshere and now Barcelona have their sights set on Samir Nasri after a first-hand look at the attacking midfielder last week.
And should Arsenal win the Premier League – they are currently 2/1 to do so – Arsenal could find two of their star midfielders disappearing off to Spain.
Nasri has a gentlemen’s agreement with Arsene Wenger to not discuss a new contract until the end of the season, but with just the year to run on his contract, Nasri could engineer a move away should the Frenchman want to.
“I’m always flattered when my name is mentioned in connection with any big club, but I also know how things work,” said Nasri.
“As things are I’m happy here and I have confidence from the manager. But things can change quickly in football and then we may have a new situation.”
Arsenal are in Carling Cup final action this Sunday and are 2/5 to beat Birmingham and secure their first major title for six years.
But it’s not the Carling Cup that Nasri wants and Arsenal are 5/2 to complete the Premier League and Carling Cup double this season.
“For now all my focus is on winning the league title and also getting as far as possible in the Champions League,” said the midfielder.
Arsenal take a 2-1 lead to the Nou Camp next week and as such have seen their Champions League winners odds cut to 12/1, but Barcelona are formidable on their home turf and Pep Guardiola will want to showcase to the likes of Nasri and Fabregas what the European giant can offer them.
Holding onto his star players could be difficult for Arsene Wenger with Barcelona lurking, and the Arsenal manager will be keen to convince his players to stay with a strong finish to the season.
