Paul-Georges Ntep may not be a household name among Premier League fans, but he’s secured his place as something of a YouTube legend after scoring a memorably arrogant goal in Rennes’ 3-1 win over Reims this weekend.

The 21-year-old has been the subject of some interest from Arsenal already, with the Gunners previously linked with a January move for the Cameroon-born star.

Previously on the books at Auxerre, Ntep impressed during a five-year spell with the Ligue 2 side, scoring a solid 15 goals in 51 appearances for the senior side before being plucked from obscurity by Rennes.

Already capped eight times by France at under-21 level, the striker has already notched up six goals for the junior Les Bleus side, but few goals are likely to compare to the one he scored in Ligue 1 this weekend – his first in the division.

With Rennes already 2-0 up against their mid-table rivals, Ntep benefited from a mistake by opposing keeper and Togo international Kossi Agassa, whose sliced clearance put Ntep through and clear on an empty goal.

But rather than tap the ball into the net unopposed, the young forward tried something different, taking the ball all the way to the goal line before dropping to his hands and knees before nodding the ball over the line.

The goal generated much ire among Reims fans and pundits alike, signalling Ntep’s arrival as France’s latest enfant terrible.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, of course, is no stranger to such characters either, having previously got the best out of Nicolas Anelka and Samir Nasri.

Whether this goal will be enough to sway him for or against a summer move for the highly-rated youngster remains to be seen.
