Arsenal will be hopeful of strengthening their squad this January, amidst criticisms of inconsistency plaguing their Premier League title credentials once again.

As such, Arsene Wenger has identified QPR maestro Adel Taarabt as a potential new year addition, in the aftermath of the Moroccan rediscovering his best form at Loftus Road.

Taarabt has at times appeared unplayable this term, despite QPR having failed to register a single league win as of yet, and Rs chief Mark Hughes is reluctant to lose him.

Indeed, the 23-year-old has scored twice in only six starts so far this season, and has re-asserted himself has an integral member of the Hoops’ starting lineup.

The Moroccan international could find a move to the Emirates difficult to resist though, with the opportunity to play for his former club Tottenham’s biggest rivals Arsenal a massive incentive.

Hughes has outlined his belief that Taarabt is in the best place for his talent to be nurtured however, and has urged the former Rs captain to remain at Loftus Road.

He told the Sun, “It wouldn’t surprise me if clubs were looking at him but I know for a fact that he is very happy here and he sees his future here.

“This is the best place for him because we support him, we give him the best chance to be successful and he understands that.”

As aforementioned though, Taarabt could welcome the opportunity to become an Arsenal player, should Wenger firm up his interest in the tricky midfielder.

Wenger could instead opt to move for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha however, with a £9million raid reportedly being lined up by the Gunners boss.

Palace, though, have placed an astronomical £20million asking price on their prize asset, with Wenger almost certain to refuse to pay such a hefty figure.

Therefore, Taarabt could prove a more realistic option, and should pressure continue to grow on his current boss Hughes, a transfer looks more likely to materialise in January.
