Arsenal will attempt to boost their defensive ranks with a bid for Hull City’s highly-rated defender Andy Robertson, according to The Sun.

Arsene Wenger has set his sights on the 20-year-old after a string of impressive displays for Hull in the Premier League, including in the 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.

The Gunners boss got a close up look at what the Scottish international, who moved to the KC Stadium just last summer, can do after the Tigers stifled the home side and held them to a much deserved draw.

And Robertson, who moved from Dundee United for just £2.85m, was a key component in that and has made a huge impact for his new club, playing in all eight of Hull’s Premier League matches so far this season.

Arsenal appear to be well stocked at left-back but with the north London club in the midst of a huge defensive crisis there is plenty of pressure on England star Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal, who is being used as an emergency centre-back.

Robertson, who was rejected by Celtic as a kid for being too small, would provide excellent strength in depth to Wenger’s squad and could challenge Gibbs for the left-back spot.

The former Dundee United defender has made three appearances for Gordon Strachan’s Scotland side and it would take a bid in the region of £10m for Hull even to consider selling a prized asset.

Arsenal are also hot on the trail of another highly-rated defender in Ipswich’s Tyrone Mings.

The 21-year-old has impressed with a number of excellent performances in the Championship and Wenger sent chief scout Steve Rowley to run the rule over the left-back first-hand in Ipswich’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn.

Crystal Palace had a £3m bid rejected for Mings in the summer and are still interested alongside Everton and Sunderland but if Arsenal, who are 8/15 to secure a top four spot with Ladbrokes, come calling it could be difficult to turn down the lure of playing at the Emirates.
