Manchester United are on the brink of signing not one but two midfielders, if the latest rumours are to be believed.
Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin is reportedly set to snub the advances of north London duo Arsenal and Tottenham in favour of a switch to Old Trafford and the Frenchman could be joined in the north-west by Nicolas Gaitan.
According to the Benfica star’s agent, a deal has already been struck between the player and Old Trafford chiefs and all that remains is for the two clubs to agree a fee.
In comments published by Metro, Jose Irribaren is quoted as saying: “Everything is possible, there is a deal with Manchester United. The will of the player is that everything goes well.
“We are waiting for a response from the vice President, which is why I cannot say much more.”
Schneiderlin, 25, is likely to cost £25m, while Gaitan is valued at around £23m by the Portuguese giants.
The latter started his career at Boca Juniors, where he lifted the 2008 Apetura, and was soon snapped up by Benfica, who he helped win two Primeira Liga titles and four Taca da Liga’s as well as reaching two Europa League finals.
United’s apparent interest in both men means speculation surrounding a move for Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger is likely to fall flat but should Giatan arrive to join Memphis Depay, Ashely Young, Antonio Valencia and Adnan Januzaj in the Red Devil’s wing options, talk of an Angel Di Maria exit could yet intensify.
United are currently priced at 11/2 to win the Premier League and 9/4 to secure a top two finish, however, with plenty of changes to the playing squad expected this summer, those odds could be much shorter come the start of the season.
