He’s been as short as 7/4 to leave West Bromwich Albion next month. And while a whole host of Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in Saido Berahino, there are now two European heavyweights that have thrown their names into the mix.
Despite having the Serie A’s joint-top scorer in their ranks, it’s thought that Roma are monitoring developments in the Black Country, with the Baggies unable to demand the fee they wanted for the former England U-21 international some 18 months ago.
It was £30m that chairman Jeremy Peace wanted back then, but potential suitors will likely have to part with just half of that sum now.
And they’re not the only Italian side reportedly interested, either. Three-time European Cup winners Inter Milan have also been linked with the 23-year-old, who netted an impressive 14 Premier League goals two seasons ago.
I Nerazzurri have failed to mount a genuine title threat since the 2010-11 campaign, and it’s unlikely the arrival of Berahino would change that immediately.
But his best years are certainly still ahead of him, and a move abroad could be just what the young striker needs to get his career back on track.
Of course, should Inter sign the Baggies man, speculation surrounding Mauro Icardi and a potential San Siro exit would only intensify.
The Argentine had been linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer, and it’s likely a number of top-flight clubs will be waiting to pounce should a move for Berahino go ahead.
