With Erik Lamela set to miss the rest of the campaign, Tottenham have been found wanting at times for a creative spark up front. But the latest reports suggest boss Mauricio Pochettino could be set to add some much-needed strength and depth this summer.
Italian publication Calciomercato claim the White Hart Lane outfit are readying a move for AC Milan’s Suso.
Yep, the same one who flopped during a two-year spell at Liverpool.
But since those difficult days on Merseyside, Suso is a new man, and is enjoying his best year yet in Italy.
Now 23, the Spaniard has been one of AC’s star men this term, bagging six goals in addition to supplying seven assists in Serie A.
The Cadiz-born forward moved to the San Siro from Liverpool in January 2015.
Loaned out to Genoa last season to gain first-team experience, Suso showed plenty of quality to net six goals in half a season with I rossoblu.
And now doing the business for AC, the forward is starting to attract attention.
Spurs could use some extra bodies to support Harry Kane, with the north London outfit relying heavily on Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Min this season.
All three feature in Tottenham’s top five for appearances this season, and with potentially another 12 games to play across league and cup, will all be nearing 50 games for the campaign.
The general consensus is that if Spurs are to launch a sustained title challenge next year – as well as a lengthy run in the Champions League – they need to make some signings this summer to spread the burden.
Pochettino will have to move quick though, with several reports claiming Milan are looking to tie down Suso to a new deal.
