Luis Suarez may have taken virtuosity to new heights by compiling his own goal-of-the-season highlights reel against Norwich, but there’s still reason to overlook the four-goal Uruguayan to finish the season as the Premier League’s leading scorer.
The overriding factor behind this theory is Sergio Aguero.
Although Suarez’ latest mammoth haul against Norwich took him onto 13 Premier League goals for the season, Aguero ensured the gap remains infinitely bridgeable at just two by notching the first of Manchester City’s three goals against West Brom.
Having blasted four screamers in one match, it’s no surprise to see Suarez installed as the 5/4 favourite ahead of the Argentine, at 5/2, though in the long haul, Aguero’s case is still the stronger.
First and foremost, there is no guarantee that Liverpool’s divisive front man will remain at Anfield beyond the upcoming January transfer window.
Rumours linking him to Real Madrid are never far below the surface and given Suarez wasn’t shy in stating his intentions to leave this summer; it wouldn’t be a great shock to see him walk out the door regardless of Liverpool’s league position.
Meanwhile, Aguero may not be able to boast a four-goal league haul this season or even a hat-trick for that matter, but his form has been nothing shy of blistering nonetheless.
He’s racked up 17 in 18 games all told for City, which includes bagging braces on three separate occasions.
And underpinning the whole argument, is the fact that Diego Maradona’s former son-in-law struts his stuff for a team which have already outscored Liverpool by 10 goals in total.
At home in particular, City regularly rack-up cricket scores and Aguero is not one to miss out on the act.
Looking outside these two for a minute, Everton’s free-scoring Belgian bulldozer, Romelu Lukaku, has to be the pick of the chasing pack at 12/1 with Ladbrokes.
