The battle for a place in the Football League reaches its all-or-nothing phase, as the National League play-offs get underway on Wednesday night.
Aldershot Town play host to fallen giants Tranmere Rovers, whilst Dagenham & Redbridge look to rectify last season’s relegation from League Two and face last season’s beaten finalists Forest Green Rovers.
So, what are the Ladbrokes News team predicting from these two games?
Aldershot v Tranmere – (Wednesday, 19:45)
We’re just saying – be prepared for goals.
The Shots have fired home in all of their last nine games, while Tranmere have registered in eight during the same period. So the 20/23 available for Both Teams to Score looks a pretty safe bet.
In truth, this one really could go either way. Aldershot haven’t lost at home since mid-December, while the Merseyside outfit have won four in a row on their travels.
So the best selection looks to be in the score markets. And there’s an interesting nugget from the pair’s prior meetings. Three of the last four meetings have been 1-1 at the interval, and there’s 15/2 on offer for that scoreline at the break on Wednesday night.
Top Bet: 1st Half Correct Score: Aldershot 1-1 Tranmere @ 15/2
Dagenham v Forest Green – (Thursday, 19:45)
The Daggers are looking to make an instant return to the Football League, while FGR are keen to throw off their reputation as National League bridesmaids – after successive seasons of play-off heartbreak. But all the signs point to a first-leg advantage for Dagenham.
John Still’s men have won six and drawn four of their last 10 meetings with the Gloucestershire club. And their home record – 11 points from the last five at the Chigwell Construction Stadium – should worry the visitors.
Having taken a solitary point from their previous two away games – against now-relegated York City and Southport – Rovers are also hard to fancy away from home.
Especially so when they’re up against one of the league’s most in-form attackers – Corey Whitely. With six goals since mid-March, the winger could cause FGR all sorts of problems.
Top Bet: Whitely to score and Dagenham to win @ 16/5
